01, The Basics

What is Raw
Indian Hair?

"Raw" means the hair has never been chemically processed. No perms, no relaxers, no dye, no silicone coatings. It is exactly as it left the donor's head, which means the cuticle is still intact, the natural texture is preserved, and the hair responds to color, heat, and moisture exactly like your own hair would.

Most hair sold as "human hair" has been chemically processed to make it look uniform. That uniformity comes at a cost: the cuticle is stripped, the hair becomes brittle over time, and within months it looks nothing like it did in the bag. Raw hair does not do that.

There are two types of raw hair. Raw that is mixed donor or steamed, and raw single donor that has never been steamed. The single donor, never-steamed hair is the superior buy. Every time.

When steam is applied to reshape the curl pattern, it breaks the hair's natural hydrogen bonds to force a new texture. The hair is not chemically damaged, but it has been changed at a structural level. Over time, with heat styling, washing, and daily wear, that steamed pattern can relax or shift, because the bonds were already altered once.

Raw single donor hair that has never been touched keeps the natural curl pattern of that one donor, with hydrogen bonds fully intact. It responds more predictably to heat and washing, and it lasts longer because nothing has been done to compromise its structure. You get the hair exactly as it grew. That is the S. Riviere difference: not just raw hair, but untouched raw single donor hair.

02, The Standard

What does
"single donor"
actually mean?

Most hair vendors blend bundles from dozens of different donors. The result looks fine in the bag. But the cuticle directions are mismatched, the textures do not align, and the hair starts to mat and shed within weeks. Single donor hair solves this problem at the source.

01
One Person's Hair
Every bundle comes from a single donor, one person, one harvest. The texture, density, and cuticle direction are perfectly consistent from root to tip.
02
Cuticle Aligned
When all strands come from one source, the cuticle runs in the same direction throughout the bundle. This means no friction between strands, no matting, no shedding.
03
No Acid Bath
Multi-donor hair requires an acid bath to strip the cuticle so it all looks uniform. Single donor hair skips this entirely, the cuticle stays intact because it never needed to be fixed.
04
Hair That Lasts
Because the cuticle is intact and aligned, the hair remains strong and healthy long-term. With proper care, it lasts for years. There is no expiration date, only how well you care for it.
03, The Source

Where does
the hair
come from?

S. Riviere hair is sourced from South Indian temples, where donating hair is a centuries-old act of devotion in the Hindu tradition. Devotees offer their hair as a form of humility and gratitude, an act of giving up something they value. Men, women, and children participate.

The temples collect, sort, and sell this hair through established channels. The proceeds often fund temple operations and local community programs. It is an ethical supply chain, not because it has been certified by a marketing department, but because the tradition itself demands dignity.

"In India, it is common in traditional Hindu practice for donors, men, women, and children alike, to offer their hair at temples as an act of devotion and humility."

Sonya Riviere

The hair is collected at the temple. From there, Sonya's trusted person on the ground hand-selects the best bundles for her, the way she would choose them herself. Those bundles are then made into the wefts, wigs, and pieces she needs for the store.

Along the way the hair is sorted by length, texture, and quality, then washed, sanitized, and prepared, but never chemically processed. It stays raw, real, and traceable from the temple to your order.

04, The Guide

Which texture
is right for you?

Every texture in the S. Riviere collection comes from raw Indian single donor hair. The natural curl pattern varies by donor, and Sonya has named each texture to reflect exactly what it does.

Curly
Lucy Curl
Lightweight, airy, bouncy curls with a loose S-pattern. The curl loosens as the length increases, at 30"+, it becomes a relaxed wave.
Best for:
Wash-and-go styles. Volume without weight.
Curly
Cushion Curl
Plush, voluminous curls with a consistent coil. Big, bold, and full-bodied. One of the most popular textures in the collection.
Best for:
Maximum volume. Statement styles.
Curly · Premium Rare
Babe Curl
A rare texture, tighter, more defined curl pattern with exceptional elasticity. Limited availability due to how rarely this pattern appears in a single donor.
Best for:
Defined curl styles. Collectors of rare textures.
Wavy
Natural Wave
A soft, natural wave, the most versatile texture in the collection. Air dries beautifully, blows out straight, and accepts a curl easily.
Best for:
All hair types. Everyday versatility. First-time raw hair buyers.
Wavy
Bouncy Wave
A livelier wave with more movement and body than Natural Wave. The hair has a natural spring to it, it moves the way hair should move.

Wavy
S. Wave
A defined S-pattern wave, structured and polished. More uniform than Bouncy Wave, with a consistent pattern throughout the bundle.

06, The Care

How to make
it last for years.

Raw hair behaves like your own hair, treat it that way. It is not fragile. It does not require a complicated routine. It just needs consistency.

Washing
Use a sulfate-free, moisturizing shampoo, sulfates strip the natural oils
Detangle gently from ends to roots before washing
Wash in downward strokes, following the cuticle direction, never scrub in circles
Deep condition after every wash to restore moisture
Rinse thoroughly with cool water to seal the cuticle
Drying & Styling
Air dry whenever possible, it is the gentlest option
If diffusing, use the lowest heat setting
Apply a light oil (argan or jojoba) while damp to seal moisture
Always use a heat protectant before any heat tool
Low to medium heat only, raw hair does not need high heat to style
Storage
Store in a silk bag or on a satin hanger when not wearing
Never store wet, allow to fully dry before putting away
Braid or loosely twist before storing to prevent tangling
Keep away from direct sunlight when storing long-term
Night Routine
Sleep on a satin pillowcase, it reduces friction significantly
Braid or twist hair before bed to protect the curl pattern
Never sleep in wet or damp hair
A light oil application before bed keeps the hair moisturized overnight
07, Common Questions

The questions
we hear most.

For most clients, 2–3 bundles is sufficient for a full sew-in, depending on head size and desired volume. If you have a larger head or want extra fullness, go with 3. Add a matching closure or frontal for a seamless finish at the hairline.

Yes, and it is one of the biggest advantages of raw hair. Because the cuticle is intact and the hair has never been processed, it lifts evenly to the lightest blonde and takes color just like virgin natural hair. Always do a strand test first, and use a professional colorist for bleach work.

With proper care, regular washing, conditioning, gentle detangling, and protective storage, raw Indian single donor hair lasts for years. There is no set time frame. Longevity depends entirely on how well you care for it, and many S. Riviere customers are still wearing their first purchase long after they bought it.

Remy hair has cuticles that run in the same direction, but it can still be chemically processed and may come from multiple donors. Raw Indian hair is a higher standard: it is unprocessed, single donor, and the cuticle is intact rather than simply aligned. Not all Remy is raw. All of S. Riviere's Raw Indian collection is both raw and single donor.

Yes, this is a natural characteristic of raw hair and a sign of its authenticity. The longer the hair, the more weight it carries, which naturally stretches the curl pattern. At 12"–16", you get a tighter, bouncier curl. At 24"+, the same texture will look more like a wave. This is normal and expected with raw hair, it is not a defect.

Standard delivery is 10–14 business days. All orders ship from Atlanta, Georgia. You will receive a tracking number via email once your order has been dispatched. Orders over $200 ship free.
